Vic Elford checking the cockpit of the Porsche 917K he will drive in the 1971 Brands Hatch BOAC 1000kms race. He co-drove with Brian Redman but retired from this race. Many consider the years 1966-1971 as the golden period of sportscar racing. Drivers were of a very high calibre, including some from Formula One. With cars such as the Porsche 917K, Ferrari 512M, Alfa Romeo, Lola and Chevron there was a lot of action and good racing to be had. 1971 was the last where the 5 litre Group 5 cars competed for the FIA World Championship for Makes. An Alfa Romeo T71 won this race and Vic Elford would drive for the Autodelta Alfa team in 1972.
